Dorothy Roberts, the George A. Weiss University Professor of Law and Sociology, and the Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Professor of Civil Rights, will present the inaugural Provost's Lecture on Diversity tonight (11/13/2013) at 5:30pm (Annenberg School Room 110).  Professor Roberts will give a talk titled, "Interracial Marriage and the Civil Rights Revolution: A Personal Journey."

Regarding this opportunity, Professor Roberts states, "I am extremely excited and honored to give the inaugural Provost's Lecture on Diversity.  It will be my first time speaking in public about my new book project on the role interracial marriage played in the Civil Rights movement."

Professor Roberts adds, "My research project and my lecture are based on an amazing archive of papers I inherited from my father, an anthropology professor, including more than 500 interviews of black-white couples in Chicago that he conducted between 1937 and 1986. I will talk about the very personal journey I am embarking on to investigate the history and politics of interracial intimacy."

This event is free and open to the public.  To hear more from Professor Roberts about her upcoming talk, visit: http://provost.upenn.edu/faculty/provost-lecture.
