Mengyang Zhao

Social movements, urban sociology, public opinion, social network analysis, mixed-method research


Mengyang Zhao joined Penn Sociology in 2017. Her research interests include social networks, public opinion, and political movement in the Global South. She also has a growing interest in far-right mobilization and left-wing radicalization in US. Mengyang has a BA in Journalism from Nanjing Normal University in China, an MPhil in Communication from Chinese University of Hong Kong, and an MA in Applied Quantitative Research from New York University. Having volunteered for several NGOs and social movement networks in China and the US, she hopes to analyze how global cities facilitate transnational organizing, and how urban social movements shape public opinion.
