Soo-Yeon Yoon

Soo-Yeon Yoon is a sociologist and social demographer who studies family, class and gender inequality and demographic changes in South Korea. Soo-Yeon completed her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her dissertation demonstrates the mechanisms through which supportive environments for families and gender equality shape women’s marriages and fertility. Currently, she is working on a project on the relationship between socioeconomic status and the transition to first marriage among young adults in South Korea. During her Postdoctoral fellowship at Korean Millennials Laboratory, she will investigate the ways in which social forces such as social class and gender, labor market, and family structure interweave with the transition to adulthood.
