Undergraduate Program: Honors Program in Sociology

Honors students work closely with the undergraduate chair, program manager, and a faculty thesis advisor for a tailored research experience that culminates with the completion of a thesis. Students who are interested in applying for the Honors program must maintain a 3.5 GPA within the major, and a 3.3 overall GPA.
 

**Requirements - Class of ‘18 and beyond
 

Beginning with the Class of ‘18, the requirements for Honors in Sociology will be as follows:

1. Completion of SOCI 300: Thesis Workshop (Spring of Junior Year and Fall of Senior Year)
2. Completion of an Honors Thesis Independent Study [SOCI 399] with a faculty advisor (Fall of Senior year)
3. Completion of a Senior Thesis

The CU requirements for honors count toward the 14 CUs needed to complete the Sociology major.

** Requirements - Class of ‘17

For a Class of '17 student to graduate with honors in Sociology, the following requirements must be met:

1. The student must complete at least one SOCIOLOGY CU at or above the 400 level. 
2. The student must complete 2 CUs that cover two out of the following three options (one in the Fall and the other in the Spring):
---- A SOCIOLOGY methods Course: SOCI 221: Sample Survey Methods, SOCI 222: Field Methods of Sociological Research, SOCI 535: Quantitative Methods I, SOCI 553: Field Methods of Social Research, SOCI 609: Basic Demographic Methods, or another methods class.
---- SOCI 399: Independent Study with Thesis Advisor.
---- SOCI 707/708: Writing Seminar
3. The student must write a senior thesis with his or her Faculty Advisor.
