Penn Sociology welcomes Daniel A. Cohen to our faculty in Fall 2016

Penn Sociology is excited to welcome Daniel A. Cohen to our faculty in Fall 2016, with an appointment as Assistant Professor of Sociology. Cohen is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at New York University, and a scholar at the Institute for Public Knowledge (IPK). Cohen was previously a visiting scholar at the Centro de Estudos da Metropole in São Paulo (2013). He is also a co-founder and co-principal investigator of the Superstorm Research Lab, a mutual aid research collective investigating changes in New York’s politics after Superstorm Sandy.

Cohen’s dissertation investigates urban climate politics in global cities, with a focus on Sao Paulo and New York. He tracks environmentalists, government, and political actors, while also exploring the ways that housing-oriented social movements shape the outcomes of urban climate politics. His research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and several grants and research awards from Columbia University and NYU.
