Steve Viscelli Receives Grants from Washington Center for Equitable Growth and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation

Steve Viscelli has received grants from the Washington Center for Equitable Growth and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation that will fund two years of data collection on Amazon's last-mile delivery operations. Ecommerce is rapidly expanding employment and opening up delivery work to new pools of labor while artificial intelligence, new communications technology and online labor platforms are speeding up that work, paying less for it and expanding the use of contractors. Using extensive fieldwork in different delivery services and over 250 interviews, the project will investigate how new technologies are enabling outsourcing in last-mile delivery and the impacts on workers.
