Angie N. Ocampo and Chenoa Flippen recently published an article, "Re-evaluating intergroup dynamics in the South: Racial attitudes among Latino immigrants in Durham, NC" in Social Science Research. This paper explores Latino immigrant attitudes toward outgroups (White and Black Americans) as well as other Latinos. The authors examine cross-group and cross-dimension variation in attitudes, finding that although Latinos adhere to ideas about white superiority, increased integration, contact and threat decreases these attitudes. While integration and contact are positively related to better attitudes toward their Black counterparts, perceived threat and vulnerability remain potential obstacles to better Latino-Black relations.
