Rebecca Clothey is a faculty member at Drexel University’s School of Education. Her research interests include international higher education policy, issues of ethnicity, and community driven education initiatives in China, the U.S., and Turkey. She has published on these topics in such journals as Comparative Education Review, Higher Education Policy, and Asian Ethnicity, among others.

Dr. Clothey has a passion for international education that began when she attended an international boarding school while in middle school in Tamil Nadu, South India. She has lived for an extended period in four different countries, including the U.S., India, China, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. She has traveled frequently to China since 1993, where she lived off and on for almost six years.

Dr. Clothey has received grants for her research from Fulbright (one to China and one to Uzbekistan), from the Spencer Foundation, and from the Drexel Social Science Research Fund, among others. Administrative appointments have included Director of Drexel’s Higher Education program (2007 – 2010), and Director of Drexel’s Global and International Education program (2008 – 2012). Prior to joining academia, Dr. Clothey worked in study abroad in China, and in elections training at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
