Quantitative Methodology Working Group: Eugenio Pagliano, Ph.D. Student in Sociology and Demography, Penn

Workshop
"A primer on small-area estimation: a case study on mortality in Massachusetts Census tracts"
Oct 26, 2023 at - | PSC Conference Room (McNeil Building, 5th Floor)

Eugenio will briefly introduce Bayesian models for small area estimation and describe an application to tract-level mortality rates in Massachusetts. These methods are potentially useful in a variety of settings when researchers have to deal with complete but sparse data.

About Eugenio PaglinoEugenio is a fourth-year joint PhD student in Demography and Sociology and M.A. candidate in Statistics and Data Science at the Wharton School. He applies Bayesian statistics, data science tools, and demographic methods to the study of population processes. His broad research interests include the interaction between environmental change and population processes, health and mortality disparities, and Bayesian data analysis.
